About Us

David Gillyon-Powell

Broken Blossom has taken a long time to become a reality. For years now, Mark and David have worked freelance taking commissions for flowers for all occasions and have long wanted to have retail premises. A small but very well situated shop became available and a long awaited dream became reality. Situated in the heart of historic Beverley, this bijou shop has become the base for our work and gives us the opportunity to show the quality of our flowers and our design flair in a high street location.

David worked for many years in health care, but started a love of flowers and floral art from childhood. Having worked as a nurse, a hospital manager and lecturer in nurse training, he also found time to study horticulture, landscape gardening and has recently completed a foundation degree in floristry design.

Mark also worked in health and social care becoming a senior health service manager. Mark has had considerable success as a competition flower arranger and together he and David have enjoyed giving floral art demonstrations for local groups and at charity events. Together they are the husband and husband team behind Broken Blossom.

At Broken blossom we believe that your flowers should be as individual as you are. Whatever the occasion, we will strive to provide designs which are unique, stylish and truly bespoke. If you are looking for something a little bit different from the ‘run of the mill’ florist’s offerings, then maybe you should talk to us. We use the best quality blooms at the peak of freshness from our refrigerated shop display unit to ensure that flowers will last for the optimum enjoyment period.

If it’s really true that you can “say it with flowers”, for happy days or those sad occasions we will do our best to ensure that you get the flowers that say what you want them to.
